SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines) issued the following statement after the governor outlined his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2027:
“While the Trump administration causes day-to-day uncertainty to the funding for our state, the governor has proposed a cautious, fiscally responsible budget. I will continue to prioritize the hardworking people of Illinois and support a balanced budget that does not increase taxes for middle-class families.
“By including an investment into the newly established Department of Early Childhood, the proposal maintains a strong educational framework for students in the early stages of development. This, paired with our continued investment in MAP grants, shows a dedication to keeping Illinois at the top of its class in higher education.
“This proposal also upholds our commitment to small businesses by continuing to fund the Innovation Vouchers Program and investing in small business innovation and research. These will keep Illinois communities growing and transform our local economies.
“It is uplifting to see wage increases for Direct Service Professionals and funding that will go to caring for those with developmental disabilities in the governor’s proposal. I will always advocate for those who take care of the vulnerable members in our communities.
“I look forward to working closely with my colleagues and listening to my community to maintain our commitment to a responsible budget that keeps Illinois stable.”
