DES PLAINES – State Senator Laura Murphy received a 2025 Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts in recognition of her leadership on legislation that supports park districts across Illinois.
“I am honored to receive this award and am proud to have supported legislation that equips our park districts with essential funding and land development grants,” said Murphy (D-Des Plaines). “I always appreciate the time and effort that park districts put in to educating, providing after school programs for students, creating employment options for their communities among other things.”

DES PLAINES –State Senator Laura Murphy will be hosting three legislative town halls in the 28th District throughout January.
“These town halls are a great opportunity to hear from residents on issues important to them and to stay caught up on the decisions we made in Springfield this past year,” said Murphy (D-Des Plaines). “I encourage residents to come out and learn about what’s going on around the state.”

SPRINGFIELD — State Senator Laura Murphy backed a property tax relief package that increases property tax exemption thresholds for senior citizens in Illinois.
“Our seniors have to navigate plenty of unique challenges every day – property taxes should not add to that list,” said Murphy (D-Des Plaines). “This legislation expands the number of seniors who qualify for property tax breaks, ensuring they do not get priced-out of their homes.”

DES PLAINES – State Senator Laura Murphy is continuing her annual holiday card drive to spread cheer this holiday season for residents at local long-term care facilities.
“The holiday season is a great opportunity to spread joy and love to seniors living in our community,” said Murphy (D-Des Plaines). “Making these cards only takes a few minutes but can lift up someone’s day.”
Murphy is encouraging residents of the Northwest Suburbs to write handmade or store-bought cards to help bring joy to older adults who may be feeling lonely or isolated during the holidays. Children are also encouraged to participate.
