DES PLAINES – State Senator Laura Murphy joined the American Legion Post 36 in Des Plaines Wednesday to greet students from Daegwang High School in Seoul, South Korea during their visit to honor the veterans who served in the Korean War.
“By giving students the opportunity to visit other countries and learn about other cultures, we are helping them grow into better people,” said Murphy (D-Des Plaines). “Cultural exchanges are an excellent way to provide students with a wealth of diverse experiences that shape their world view.”
The students of Daegwang High School visited Murphy’s district as part of the Memorandum of Understanding partnership program with Maine Township High School District 207. The program aims to provide students with the opportunity to broaden their horizons through cultural exchange. This is the first opportunity for these students to visit the United States.
In addition to visiting the American Legion, the students visited both Maine South and Maine East High Schools and the Technology and Manufacturing Association offices in Schaumburg.
“I’m always encouraged to see young people who are eager to learn about history so they can work toward a brighter future,” Murphy said.
