SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines) released the following statement in response to the passage of Senate Bill 1988:
“The taxpayers of every township should have an equal opportunity to appeal their property taxes. By extending the filing period, every homeowner has additional time to appeal.
“We recognize that the high property taxes are a problem in Illinois, and this is one step toward providing relief for homeowners. We will continue to work on reducing property taxes to make them more affordable for all residents.
“Property taxes are one of the issues that matter most to my constituents, and I am proud that we can address an issue that is so important to them. Under this legislation, the property assessment appeal process will be more simple and flexible for the people of Cook County.”
